First Baptist Church, Dover was born on Wednesday, August 27, 1924, when a group of Baptists met at the Stewart County Court House for the purpose of organizing a Baptist Church. Once established, the infant church which consisted of ten charter members, asked Dr. J.E. Skinner to serve as moderator of the organization, and called Rev. C.
First Baptist Church, Dover was born on Wednesday, August 27, 1924, when a group of Baptists met at the Stewart County Court House for the purpose of organizing a Baptist Church. Once established, the infant church which consisted of ten charter members, asked Dr. J.E. Skinner to serve as moderator of the organization, and called Rev. C.F. Bridges as pastor. In November of that same year, this small but determined group began negotiations to purchase a lot on the National Cemetery Highway on which to build. The purchase was made, the plans approved and the rest, as they say, is history.
